JACKSONVILLE Dalton Schultz Jersey Elite , Fla. (AP) Paul Posluszny left the game the same way he played – with the utmost class.
The veteran middle linebacker retired Tuesday after 11 NFL seasons with Buffalo and Jacksonville, calling it quits because he can ”no longer compete at a level that I find acceptable.”
Posluszny delivered the news in a heartfelt letter that thanked family members, former coaches at every level and teammates past and present.Article continues below ...
”With much sadness but without regret, I realize that I am no longer able to adhere to the unwavering standard of excellence that professional football demands,” Posluszny wrote. ”I say this with a heavy heart: I am retiring from the NFL. I love the game of football so much Wholesale Johnny Townsend Jersey , and I know there is truly only one acceptable way to play. Knowing I can no longer compete at a level that I find acceptable, I have chosen to end my football career.
”This decision is mine alone, and although I know this will not bring me happiness, it is the right and honorable action to take at this time in my life.”
The Pennsylvania native and Penn State graduate was an old-school linebacker, a player who liked tackling way more than talking. He had a chiseled chest Authentic Richard Rodgers Jersey , a barely noticeable neck and scars up and down his body.
Posluszny started his career in Buffalo before playing the final seven years in Jacksonville. He led the Jaguars in tackles five times. His 973 career stops trail only Daryl Smith (1,089) in Jacksonville’s record book.
”I believe everyone should thank Paul for a career representing everything to love about the NFL and the game of football,” team owner Shad Khan said in a statement. ”Paul competed hard and relentlessly, but always represented his community with honor and class, as we saw during his years here with the Jaguars.”
The 33-year-old Posluszny was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday. With Jacksonville unlikely to re-sign him following the emergence of Myles Jack Nate Solder Super Bowl LI Jersey , Posluszny opted to walk away for good.
He did so with an elegant letter, planning to ”spend the rest of eternity” trying to repay his wife for everything she has done for him and promising to do his best to step up the challenge of ”dance class and dollhouses” with his two daughters.
He thanked teachers and coaches at Hopewell High in Western Pennsylvania. He thanked Penn State, including late coach Joe Paterno for providing him ”with a priceless education and wonderful memories.” He thanked the Bills, including coach Marv Levy and late owner Ralph Wilson, ”for allowing me to be a small part of that storied franchise and amazing city.”
He also thanked Jaguars coach Doug Marrone and top executive Tom Coughlin ”for bringing us out of the darkness and back into the light Courtland Sutton Jersey Elite , and for demanding a non-negotiable standard of excellence that will propel the Jacksonville Jaguars forward for years to come. I am excited to watch and cheer for you.”
Posluszny made one Pro Bowl (2013) and was part of one winning seasons (2017). He also made the playoffs for the first time in his career last season and finished one victory shy of the Super Bowl.
”These last two or three years, I promise you I saw him smile more than I did before – even in pictures,” fellow Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith said. ”I know he went through another phase in life having his daughters. That opened him up in a different way. I saw that, and it gave him these last two or three years to go battle with us.”

SAAS-FEE, Switzerland – Scarce snow at home and melting glaciers abroad are making it increasingly difficult for athletes in the United States and around the globe to train for the Olympics. In the first 20 years of the IIHF World Junior Championship tournament, Team USA managed two podium finishes – bronze medals in 1986 and 1992. METAIRIE Authentic Martavis Bryant Jersey , La. (AP) On paper, it looks as if coach Sean Payton has the Saints rolling once again.
They’ve won five straight and enter a second straight week atop the NFC South all by themselves.
Then there’s the more complicated, nuanced reality of how the past two games have gone.Article continues below ...
When the Saints won at Green Bay in Week 7, they didn’t have to play against star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who hurt his collarbone the week before.
In a win over Chicago on Sunday, New Orleans had two pivotal replay reversals go in their favor and also were facing a rookie QB making his fourth start.
On Monday, Payton said his message to the team is that there are ”a lot of things we’re doing well and yet there’s a number of things we’re not doing as well, and I do believe when we play in a bigger game against a better team, those can catch up with you.”
”We’re still chasing a perfect four quarters of football as opposed to a good half Adidas Aleksander Barkov Jersey ,” Payton added.
What Payton won’t do is apologize for good fortune, such as a reversal of what was initially ruled a fumble by Saints running back Alvin Kamara, or the disputed reversal of what appeared to be a touchdown catch by Bears tight end Zach Miller, who seriously injured his knee as he came down with the ball.
”Our league each week is made up of breaks,” Payton said. ”We can’t control the quarterback (in Green Bay) and quite honestly I thought (officials) missed some calls” to New Orleans’ detriment against Chicago.
Regardless of breaks, the improvement of New Orleans’ defense is evident. The unit has closed out the past two victories with interceptions and hasn’t allowed as many as 350 yards in a game during the winning streak after allowing an average of 512.5 yards in New Orleans’ two losses during Weeks 1 and 2.
”As long as we’re winning, even when we’re not playing our best in all phases, that’s always good,” veteran safety Rafael Bush said. ”We’re getting those gritty wins. We’re closing out games on defense. That’s going to pay dividends when we get to the latter part of the season.”
Bush said confidence is growing with each victory Wholesale Jessie Bates III Jersey , but stressed he doesn’t ”want us to get ahead of ourselves or think we have arrived.”
The previous time New Orleans won five straight was 2013, when left tackle Terron Armstead was a rookie reserve. He became a starter later that season, after New Orleans had opened 5-0.
”It’s good to go on this win streak right now, but we’re far from satisfied,” Armstead said. ”It’s tough in this league to get wins. It doesn’t matter who’s on the field. We’re taking each win and claiming it as ours and trying to stack them up.”
The Saints went 7-9 each of the previous three seasons, meaning third-year defensive lineman Tyeler Davison has yet to experience a winning NFL campaign.
He said understanding how tough it can be to win consistently in the NFL makes him optimistic about New Orleans’ recent streak.
”Regardless of if the Packers didn’t have Aaron Rodgers or the Bears have a rookie quarterback, it’s still NFL football,” Davison said. ”I’m pretty sure the Bears had just come off winning a couple games themselves.”
Indeed, the Bears arrived in New Orleans having won two straight Taron Johnson Jersey Elite , but trailed by two scores for most of Sunday’s 20-12 loss to the Saints.
”We know that we’ve done a lot of good things these last five games. We also know there are still things we can get better at,” Davison said, noting that the Saints are ”not getting big-headed.”
”As long as we keep being objective about what we see, I feel like we’ll be good,” Davison said.
NOTES: CB Delvin Breaux, a starter when healthy the past two seasons, is eligible to come off injured reserve this week and said he feels ready to do so. ”I’m great. I’m there. I practiced full last week,” said Breaux, who had surgery in August for a fibula fracture. However Wholesale Robert Griffin III Jersey , Payton said the Saints won’t rush Breaux back, comparing his situation to that of receiver Willie Snead, who has seen minimal action since returning from an early season suspension. ”I don’t think you just flip the switch and then bang,” Payton said. … Bush, who was in coverage when Miller’s knee gave out Sunday, said it was upsetting to learn about the seriousness of the tight end’s injury, which required immediate surgery at a hospital. ”I’m praying for him and his family and I’m praying that he has a speedy recovery,” Bush said.

GUELPH Authentic Trenton Cannon Jersey , Ontario (AP) Bruce Hood, the former NHL referee who worked 1,100 games over 21 seasons, died Friday of prostate cancer. He was 81.
Kevin Hood said his father died at a hospice surrounded by family in Guelph.
Bruce Hood was on the ice for some of the NHL’s most iconic moments, including Bobby Orr’s overtime goal in Game 4 of the 1970 Stanley Cup final that gave the Boston Bruins their first title in nearly 30 years.Article continues below ...
”He wanted to be the best at everything he did in his life Sam Hubbard Super Bowl LI Jersey , and refereeing was no exception,” Kevin Hood told The Canadian Press. ”He would always say, `You’re only half right most of the time.’ Half the crowd’s with you and half the crowd’s against you. Hood officiated 1,033 regular-season games Wholesale Luke Falk Jersey , 157 playoff games, three All-Sstar games and three Canada Cups. He was instrumental in the formation of the NHL Officials Association in 1969,
”Bruce Hood brought professionalism and integrity to every game he worked and earned the respect of the players, coaches, general managers – as well as his peers Authentic Bryce Petty Jersey ,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement. ”In addition to his command of the game and his ability to communicate on the ice, Bruce had a characteristic calmness that brought his excellence to the fore when the pressure was greatest.”
Hood also refereed the so-called ”Good Friday Massacre” brawl between the Montreal Canadiens and Quebec Nordiques in the 1984 playoffs. The fisticuffs started at the end of the second period and spilled over into the third when the teams returned from the locker-rooms, eventually leading to 252 minutes in penalties and 11 ejections.
Hood retired after the 1984 playoffs and got into the travel business, eventually becoming president of the Association of Canadian Travel Agents. He authored two books on hockey – ”Calling the Shots” in 1988 and ”The Good of the Game” in 1999 – and tried his hand at politics with the Liberals, losing a tight race in the riding of Wellington-Halton Hills in the 2004 federal election.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Tom Brady has never lost in Minnesota Authentic Kevin Hogan Jersey , with his latest game in the land of lakes this weekend at the Super Bowl of course looming as the largest yet.
Well, long before all this football success, Brady actually endured a couple of memorable failures in the state. They came during those treasured visits to his family’s farm outside the tiny town of Browerville.
First, there was his grandfather’s dog, Tippy. Little Tommy ignored the advice of his elders one day and decided to feed Tippy a bone.Article continues below ...
”I bent down to give him a kiss, and he bit through my lip,” Brady said. ”That was pretty rough.”
Then there was his ill-fated debut with chewing tobacco, which he persuaded his uncles to let him sample during the half-hour ride back to the farm from their fishing expedition on the lake.
”They said, `Look, if we give it to you Albert Wilson Jersey Elite , you can’t spit it out until you get home,’ Of course they give it to me, and within five minutes I’m outside of the car, throwing up all over the place,” Brady said. ”And I don’t think I’ve had much chewing tobacco since then.”
Brady spent plenty more time in central Minnesota as he aged into a star quarterback and eventually one of the most famous people on the planet. He still makes a priority to visit in the offseasons with his wife and children, trying to continue a tradition he reflected upon fondly and often during news conferences this week.
”I’ve come here my entire life since I was a baby. I’ve been coming to Minnesota in summers and winters. I loved the experience. I loved the life here,” Brady said. ”Some of my greatest memories as a kid were coming here and milking cows with my grandpa; hanging out in his silos and in the haystack above his barn; going out to where he would pasteurize the milk and pull the cream off the top of the milk in the morning; and shooting his (.22-caliber rifle) at targets in the backyard, and catching sunfish with my uncles. It was great. I love being here. It’s a great state. Obviously, I love the people. Being that my mom’s from here, I’m proud of that.”
Galynn Johnson was the middle child between two boys Michael Dickson Jersey Elite , the 1961 homecoming queen at Browerville High School who moved to California and met Tom Brady, who would later add senior to his name when a certain five-time Super Bowl winner was born. The couple returned to Todd County, where the prairie meets the forest a little less than a 2+-hour drive northwest of downtown Minneapolis, in 1969 for their wedding.
Brady and the Patriots will play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, when several family members will be in attendance at U.S. Bank Stadium.
”These tickets are pretty tough to come by,” Brady said. ”But I’m trying my best to accommodate everyone. It is very special.”
The group will include Paul Johnson, who at age 50 is 10 years older than his quarterback cousin. He’s an entrepreneur who has stayed around his whole life. After CBS announcer Jim Nantz mentioned Browerville to Brady during New England’s AFC championship celebration, Johnson has been the subject of a barrage of media coverage that’s highly unusual for a quiet burg of 793 people.
”It’s fun. I wouldn’t want to be a celebrity, I know that,” Johnson said Authentic Baker Mayfield Jersey , conducting an interview with The Associated Press from his ice-fishing shack on one of the region’s bounty of frozen lakes, with the clinking of his propane tank audible in the background. ”We’re just so proud of him.”
The Johnsons of Browerville quickly became Patriots fans after Brady was drafted in 2000, veering away from the home-state Vikings.
”We clearly remember the game where Drew Bledsoe got hurt,” Johnson said, ”and the rest is history.”
Johnson’s 22-year-old son, Benton, is a University of St. Thomas senior in St. Paul who was fortunate enough to get on the ticket list for Sunday, too. This will be his first in-person Super Bowl, but he and his 25-year-old sister, Kenley Geron Christian Super Bowl LI Jersey , have been lifelong fans of the Patriots.
”It was probably the coolest thing on earth to say that Tom Brady was your cousin,” said Benton, who always carried photo evidence of his relation to disprove any doubting peers at school.
Even for young Benton, visits to Browerville from the Brady clan made a major impression.
”It was always like, `Mom, when are they coming?”’ Benton said. ”I always told my parents I would move to California because I just loved seeing them and the stories they would tell.”
Brady’s mother underwent breast cancer treatments in 2016 and made a stirring appearance on the field this season before New England’s game against the Atlanta Falcons . Brady has beamed this week every time he’s spoken about his family, proudly reporting that his mom remains cancer free.
”My parents mean everything to me,” Brady said. ”They’ve been here by my side every step of the way.”

NASHVILLE Trent Brown Jersey Elite , Tenn. (AP) Dick LeBeau is more than happy to talk about the challenge of defending Ben Roethlisberger and the high-powered Steelers.
The 80-year-old coaching legend will even joke about never having been to the visitors’ locker room at Heinz Field before.
The emotions of returning to Pittsburgh to coach against the Steelers (7-2) where he spent 16 seasons over two stints?Article continues below ...
”I’m trying not to think at all about anything except the Titans getting ready to play a big football game,” LeBeau said Tuesday.
”I think both teams have won four in a row. It’s going to really be a great challenge for us, and we’re looking forward to it.”
Not for the Tennessee defensive coordinator who’s returning to Pittsburgh for the first time since he resigned as Steelers defensive coordinator in January 2015. That was after his second stop from 2004 to 2014 where the Steelers won two Super Bowls with LeBeau as coordinator.
Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo said he’s pretty sure this return trip will be emotional for LeBeau.
”He won’t tell us that, and he won’t tell you guys that,” Orakpo said. ”I’m pretty sure this one means a lot to him. I think it’s his first time playing there since he’s been gone … We want this one for him.”
Many of the Steelers are looking forward to seeing LeBeau again – personally.
”He’s not the type of guy you want to see in a headset on the other sideline Wholesale Rasheem Green Jersey ,” Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said.
”In the midst of their four-game run, it is quintessential run. They are taking the ball away. They are minimizing the run game. They are making the explosion and splash plays that is a signature of his ball. That is a significant reason why they are 6-3 and division leaders.”
Kevin Butler replaced LeBeau as coordinator and remains good friends with LeBeau. Butler noted the Steelers thought they might see the Titans in the playoffs last season except the Titans didn’t qualify.
Seeing LeBeau on the opposite sideline will be awkward in a relationship so competitive Butler says he makes LeBeau putt out when they play golf together.
And yes, the Steelers still use some of what LeBeau installed as coordinator. How much? Butler isn’t saying.
”We’d be fools not to do what we did before we were successful,” Butler said. ”We’re top five in the league in defense for a long time when he was a coordinator, so it would be foolish for us not to use some of the same stuff he used. Sometimes people catch up with it so you kind of have to tweak it here and there.”
Roethlisberger is expecting LeBeau to throw everything at him Wholesale Josh Allen Jersey , along with something the Steelers quarterback doesn’t know. Roethlisberger called LeBeau probably one of the best defensive coordinators and even better people he’s ever met.
”It was so much fun to be on his team and watch what he did to other quarterbacks,” Roethlisberger said. ”I don’t think it’s going to be as much fun going against him.”
LeBeau isn’t buying into Roethlisberger’s flattery.
”To show him something he’s never seen before, I think that’s an impossibility,” LeBeau said. ”But we’ll try to disguise and try to make him read us after the snap. He’s a great diagnostician. He really can take a look at you and find out where you’re going, and it’s part of the reason he’s been so successful.”
Of course Authentic Da'Shawn Hand Jersey , LeBeau hasn’t changed much of how he calls a defense in Tennessee. Titans coach Mike Mularkey says LeBeau is pretty confident in what he’s doing, especially after the success he’s had in his career.
”There’s no reason to reinvent the wheel,” Mularkey said.
NOTES: Only QB Marcus Mariota (ankle), TE Delanie Walker (forearm) and LG Quinton Spain (toe) were on the injury report Tuesday, and all three practiced. Spain is expected back Thursday night after missing two straight games.

NEW YORK (AP) Rangers defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will have surgery on his left knee and is expected to be out indefinitely.
The prized free-agent acquisition Authentic Randall Telfer Jersey , who signed a four-year, $26.6 million deal to come to his hometown team, said Friday he has a meniscus tear in the knee that he has been playing through all season.
”It’s come to a point now where Authentic Vinny Curry Jersey , looking at all the options trying to stick it out or make it through the season, with the way it’s kind of been going I think it’s the right time to get the surgery and handle it,” Shattenkirk said. ”Take care of it before it becomes something that we don’t want to do down the line Jonathan Cooper Super Bowl LI Jersey , later in the season that will put me out of the crucial part of the season.”Article continues below ...
The 28-year-old said he had a cortisone shot before the season that helped for a while, and then a platelet-rich plasma injection during the team’s bye week earlier last week, but the knee didn’t respond to the latter the way he hoped. He will have surgery on Monday and expects to be back before the end of the season.
Shattenkirk has five goals and 18 assists in 43 games for the Rangers after totaling 13 goals and 43 assists over 80 games for St. Louis and Washington last season.
”(The injury) limits me off the ice as far as training … and I feel because of it my left leg is starting to get a lot weaker Chukwuma Okorafor Jersey Elite ,” he said. ”And not allowing me to play my game and have the escapability and the explosiveness in my skating that anyone will tell you is a big part of my game. Recently it’s something that’s really been glaring.”
Other than the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, he has had at least 30 assists and 40 points every year – one of just 14 defensemen in NHL history to accomplish the feat in six of their first seven seasons.
The Rangers are also without defenseman Marc Staal and forwards Kevin Hayes and Chris Kreider. Staal and Hayes are expected to skate Saturday and Sunday mornings, and coach Alain Vigneault said they could play Sunday at Los Angeles in the second game of a back-to-back.
Tony DeAngelo was called up from Hartford of the AHL. The young defenseman Authentic Sam Darnold Jersey , acquired from Arizona in the offseason trade that sent center Derek Stepan and goalie Antti Raanta to the Coyotes, started the season in New York and had one assist in eight games. Forward Daniel Catenacci was also called up from the Wolf Pack.
The Rangers began the day tied with Pittsburgh for fourth in the Metropolitan Division and the two wild card spots in the Eastern Conference. They currently hold the tiebreaker by having played two fewer games than the Penguins.
New York faces Colorado on Saturday to open a four-game trip heading into next weekend’s All-Star break.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Walking gingerly to the sideline with his throwing shoulder throbbing in pain Wholesale Brian O'Neill Jersey , Aaron Rodgers turned back toward the field and barked at Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr.
Rodgers likely already knew that his season was in jeopardy after Barr’s hit broke his collarbone, and the fiery quarterback’s frustration boiled over.
Now the Green Bay Packers have to try to make sure their season as a whole doesn’t go down the drain with it.Article continues below ...
Rodgers was knocked out of the 23-10 loss to the Vikings in the first quarter on Sunday with an injury that could cause him to miss the remainder of the season .
It’s a crushing blow to a team that entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, optimism based primarily on the right arm of one of the game’s best quarterbacks.
”It’s devastating,” receiver Randall Cobb said. ”No question about it. First and foremost, that is one of my closest friends, so to see him go down with that is tough. We still have to play football. We have a long season ahead of us to figure out what we are going to do.”
Brett Hundley Da'Ron Payne Super Bowl LI Jersey , the only other quarterback on the roster outside of practice squad player Joe Callahan, was rushed into duty. He finished 18 of 33 for 157 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
”Losing Aaron Rodgers speaks for itself,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. ”In my opinion, he’s the best player in football. This is the ultimate team game. We need to be better with the 11 people on the field that we have, regardless of the phase that we’re in. Ultimately that’s my responsibility.”
Colin Kaepernick, who has had difficulty finding a job since becoming the face of league-wide demonstrations during the national anthem that protest social injustice Wholesale Baker Mayfield Jersey , and Tony Romo, who joined CBS as an analyst after retiring from the Dallas Cowboys, could be outside options to fill in for Rodgers. But McCarthy said after the game he was not considering anything like that yet.
”Brett Hundley and Joe Callahan, that’s what we’re going with,” he said.
Despite several key injuries to the secondary, the Packers entered the game Sunday against their NFC North rivals at 4-1 after Rodgers engineered a game-winning touchdown drive to beat the Dallas Cowboys last week.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer’s defense has always gotten after Rodgers in these tense matchups Joel Iyiegbuniwe Super Bowl LI Jersey , and it happened again in the first quarter when Barr drove him into the turf after he got rid of a roll-out pass.
The impact did not appear to be that violent at first glance as Rodgers rolled through the hit. But it became apparent quickly that he was in considerable pain. He writhed on the turf as McCarthy argued for a roughing the passer penalty.
”I know Anthony Barr personally,” said Hundley, a fellow UCLA alum. ”I wouldn’t imagine he’s a dirty player. I didn’t really get a good look at it.”
Rodgers rode a cart to the locker room for further tests and remained there throughout the first half. He was initially deemed questionable, but the Packers announced after halftime that he would not return to the game.
”He’s the best in the game so I hate to see that for him,” Vikings safety Harrison Smith said.
Since becoming the full-time starter in 2008, Rodgers has been remarkably durable. He missed seven games in 2013 with a fractured collarbone Wholesale Cassius Marsh Jersey , but he has started 132 of the other 134 games during that time period.
Of course, being able to count on a quarterback to take the snaps is nothing new for Green Bay. Since Brett Favre took over for the injured Don Majkowski in the third game of the 1992 season, the Packers have had Favre and Rodgers for all but nine games.
Matt Flynn, Scott Tolzien and Seneca Wallace were forced to fill in while Rodgers was out in 2013 and the Packers went 2-4-1 in that stretch. Flynn started once in 2010 when Rodgers sat out with a concussion and again in 2011 when he rested during the regular-season finale with the Packers having clinched the top seed in the NFC playoffs.
Favre never sat at all.
Hundley had only thrown 11 passes over the course of his first two-plus seasons in the league before jumping in on Sunday.
”I hope (at)AaronRodgers12 is OK!” Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman tweeted. ”The league is better when he’s healthy. Praying for you.”
